Welcome
Whether you're a beginner or have been learning for awhile , I offer personalized lessons tailored to you. My experience as a musician and teacher will guide you through the journey of learning and improving on the guitar. With a focus on technique, variety, and creativity, I am committed to helping you achieve your musical goals.

Every one will have a slightly different idea of how they want to realise their goals on the guitar....Below are three different lesson styles to help you to get to where you want
1.
Structured learning
Generally, I will prepare the lesson in advance so you will have the relevant materials and a structured practice routine so you will know exactly what you are learning and have the road map to achieve it. Term by term, there will be different modules where you will focus on the different aspect of your playing such as counting rhythms, scales, finger picking etc This style of lesson is great for beginners/intermediate players as you will discover the wide variety of techniques and styles that you could play and it also helps you become a well rounded player.
2.
Assisted learning
Some players know exactly what they want from the lessons and just need a little bit of guidance or a 'second opinion' from a more experienced player so they can achieve their goals faster.
3.
Relaxed learning
Some people are very busy with their every day lives that they want guitar to be more of a down time hobby. For these lessons, we want to make sure guitar doesn't turn into another weekday 'job' or 'chore'. Lessons will focus on answering your questions, helping you find the easiest way to complete a song, the odd musical challenge will be thrown in so you do keep learning new things but in general the lessons will have a focus on the fun side of playing guitar.
About
Why do I teach? I believe guitar is supposed to be about having fun and my aim is to always to try and make sure playing and practicing guitar remains that way for others. Why get lessons at all?I know how valuable lessons can be. I would always come across road blocks in learning new songs, thankfully I had a teacher who could show me and in no time I would be over that roadblock after the lesson. Why not just learn online?Online is a great tool for almost everything but as I have learned from teaching, is that everyone will be slightly different with their learning and progress and having a teacher who can personalize the lesson around you will result in a much better experience.
Do I need a guitar?you can borrow one for the first lesson (if you're still undecided if you are fully commited to learning )but after that you will need one.
Pop Metal Rock
(most forms of music except graded classical guitar and jazz)
Levels
Complete beginner:You have never played guitar before and would like to start, you may know what you want to learn and you may not, anyone is welcome! What can I expect from my first year learning? Chords, rhythms, counting, reading tablature, learning songs and playing fluently
Intermediate:You can play most songs you want and have good command over the instrument but you still struggle with theory and some technical aspects
For songwriters and music producers:I am a devoted songwriter and in the last few years of my lessons, I would spend most of my time going through my songs with my teacher, you may not care at all what someone thinks about your song (and that is fine) but some people like to have some feedback which is what can also be part of the lesson if you so desire:
Where I can help

The teacher
My name is Josh Ousey. Im based in Mt Albert and have been playing guitar since I was 7 years old.
In 2017 I won the inaugural New Zealand Shredfest while still in Highschool( judges included members from popular NZ rock bands such as Devilskin). After High school I then moved to Auckland and completed a Bachelor of Musical Arts at Mainz (Music and Audio Institute NZ) which consisted of three years of music theory, music production, songwriting and producing. After completing my degree I then started working as an music in schools guitar teacher as I realised that not only did I love playing music but I also loved teaching music!
Seeing people struggle on their instrument is something that I have done many times myself and now after more than 15 years of playing I feel I can make a difference for any aspiring guitarist ( whether you want to play on stage or just master that smoke on the water riff!!).
